We often like to think big: big churches, big conferences, big plans for the future. After all, “big” gets results. And if we’re going to do something like living for God and not being ashamed, we want that to be big, too.
But you can’t do big everyday. In fact, our everyday routines often wear down big ideas with emails, to-do lists, family appointments, and the same drive to work you’ve taken for years. Pretty soon, the big becomes the bygone.
You know what? Big is not always the point.
Not being ashamed starts small. It’s that second you thank God for the morning instead of rolling over to slap the snooze button. It’s the moment you stop scouring your RSS feed to pick up a Bible instead. It’s that instant you turn down Starbucks and use the money to buy water for a neighbor in need halfway around the world.
Small things—like praying together or sharing encouragement or reading the Bible with your kids—can add up. You don’t have to be unashamed all at once. Each moment has its own opportunity.
Dream big, but don’t forget what small can do.
