Powerful are the words of the apostle Paul who declared, “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth: to the Jew first and also to the Greek” (Rom. 1:16, KJV). Given the background of Paul (Phil. 3:1-13), these words are indeed powerful, especially from Paul’s perspective. Consider the transformation that takes place in the life of Paul, who previously was known as Saul (Acts 13). As a result of his obedience to the Gospel, Paul changes from being a persecutor of the Gospel to being a preacher of the gospel (Gal. 1:6-11). As a result of his obedience to the Gospel (Acts 9:1-22; 22:1-16), Paul moves from adversary of Christ to being an ally of Christ (Acts 9:1-6; Galatians 2:20). Finally, by the gospel, Paul moves from being confused about the gospel (Acts 23:1), to being convinced and committed to the gospel (1 Corinthians 9:14; 27; 2 Tim. 1:12). As a result, Paul could now say, “I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ.” May we, like Paul, be able to say, “I am not ashamed of the gospel!”
