What if we took our relationship with God seriously? Would we spend less time talking and more time walking?
1 John 2:5-6 (NIV), “But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.”
Wow! Is he serious? This is huge! How can we live this command? How often do we use the same old excuse "but nobody is perfect”? Does this sound familiar?
Are there any examples of men who lived perfect or blameless lives?
- Job 1:1 (ASV), “There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and turned away from evil.”
- Genesis 6:9 (ASV), “These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, and perfect in his generations: Noah walked with God.”
Paul gave us some similar guidance:
Galatians 5:25 (ASV), “If we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us also walk.”
If we decided to live this moment in step with the Holy Spirit, what would happen? Could this moment be perfect? In step with the Holy Spirit is neither falling behind nor getting ahead of God.
Think of a time in your past when you know you experienced the presence of God. Maybe you were in a time of praise or the Holy Spirit taught you some new Truth while you were studying or maybe it was during a time of prayer. Whatever it was, think of that time. Do you think that moment was perfect? Maybe it was.
What if we strung together moment after moment for a complete day completely yielded our life to God? Could this day be a perfect day?
We must walk with God every moment—Not tomorrow or sometime in the future.
I know this all sounds very hard, but would God command us to do something that could not be achieved? Can we walk as Jesus did?
Walking is the basic necessity that gets us to every place we go every day. It is not automatic, like breathing, it is a conscious decision for every moment that we are walking. We should approach our relationship with God as walking. Something we decide to do everyday to get us where we go
